AUTOMATION & ROBOTICS ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY (CIP CODE 15.0403)

Program Summary

The three-year Vocational Technical program in Electromechanical Technology (CIP 15.0403) prepares students for careers in industries such as manufacturing, automation, and robotics. Students will learn critical thinking, operations and control, equipment selection, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting and repair of machines and systems found in facilities where high tech equipment is used. The program blends principles of electrical and mechanical engineering with practical, hands-on experience.

Year 1: Foundations and Safety the first year focuses on industry safety standards and fundamental principles of electromechanical systems. Students will learn basic electrical theory, circuit analysis, mechanical fundamentals, and technical mathematics. Emphasis is placed on understanding and adhering to workplace safety protocols.

Year 2: Intermediate Electromechanical Systems in the second year, students build on their foundational knowledge with more advanced topics. They will explore digital electronics, fluid power systems, robotics, and automation. Courses will also cover instrumentation and measurement techniques, equipping students with essential technical skills.

Year 3: Advanced Technology and Cooperative Education the first half of the third year focuses on advanced control systems, PLC programming, embedded systems. Students will begin a capstone project, applying their knowledge to design and develop a complex electromechanical system. The second half of the year offers a Cooperative Education opportunity, where students gain practical industry experience through internships or cooperative placements.

Program Outcome: Graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to design, analyze, and maintain electromechanical systems. The program’s combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience ensures that students are well-prepared for technical careers and are valuable assets to employers in various industries. Students will also develop a portfolio with their certificates, resume, cover letter, etc.

Automation & Robotics Engineering Technology (ARET) Skills

Students will learn critical thinking, operations and control, equipment selection, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting and repair of machines and systems found in facilities where high tech equipment is used. Although theory is necessary, most of this technology is hands-on learning.
