Program Information
What is a IV Therapy?
The IV Therapy Certification Course at Western Area Career & Technology Center is designed for LPNs or PN Students. This course covers in-depth review of venous system and nervous system anatomy, IV cannulation, legal aspects, special considerations, contraindications, documentation, and side effects of IV cannulation.
What does WACTC offer?
Upon successful completion of this Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing approved course, students will meet the requirements of the IV Therapy Certification required under § 21.203 of the PA Nursing Code, regarding the LPN performing IV therapy, including a central line.
Classes are held one day a week from 9 AM until 2:30 PM for 6 weeks
Program Costs
Current WACTC PN Students: $150.00
Non-WACTC Students: $250.00
Tuition is due in full prior to the first day of class.
No refunds will be given after attending the first class.
Curriculum and Testing
Students must achieve an 80% in the classroom component. Additionally, students must successfully start 10 IVs as well as discontinue them and pass all skills competency testing before certification is issued.
Lecture: 20 hours
Lab: 10 hours
Admission
Admission Requirements
Applicants must be a minimum of 17-years-old and be enrolled in or a graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing Program.
Documentation of successful medication administration course must be submitted.
